In this case, both Honaker and Coeburn would be Division 1 if they elected to be .

Ahhhhhh....NOPE, it don't sound too good or fair for that matter! haha

The VHSL needs to take a look at TSSAA or WVSAAC.

As it stands right now it's just one BIG CLUSTER F**K!

Of course you're using this year as your basis, what would it have been several other years?

The biggest thing most people have said that even that isn't a fix.

I know I, and others have said, its bad that a 6-4 Clintwood team goes this year, while what 8-2 ones have sat home before.

[/ QUOTE ]

I used this year since this is the year before it may take place and for the simple fact that it had not been talked about until this season.

I played on a 8-2 team that had to sit at home for the playoffs too. The competition in our region was just tougher than in other years - same goes for Clintwood and this year. The competition wasn't as tough as in past years as it was when Clintwood finished 8-2. Even in the NFL there could be years that a divisional champion could have a poor record - worse than other divisional champions and still make the playoffs. You'll never satisfy everyone. I guess the point I am trying to make is that under this possible re-alignment/reclassification scenario, every year you will have at least 14 teams vying for 2 playoff positions in Division 1 in football - and maybe at times 13 teams vying for just one. There will be more whining and crying in our area in the future if this does take place than there happens to be now.

Oh by no means is the situation they are looking at a solution. The VHSL should just open their eyes and look in neighboring states for a better solution.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Re: What If...?

No, it's not a solution that's for certain. But a situation with an even split of Division 1 & Division 2 teams makes more sense than the 7/16 split that has been spoken of - and in admiring fashion for some reason - on this board over the course of several months.

Re: What If...?

IMHO the Split will help Once our teams goto state IMHO Haysi was a better team than Burton Last year and would have made it to the State game (Don't think they would have beat WC though) last year and when Miller lead Honaker team made the State game they were smaller than the Div 1 champs from Reagion A, B, and C and would have won State in Div1 that year.

That being said I can handle sitting home at 6-4 so long as another 9-1 or 8-2 team does not have to.

Would also point out if I were "King" of the VHSL I would kill off divisions and go to a 4A or 5A System and allow mixed districs so that a school with AA size (Lee) could stay AA and still play in a single A district for travel reasons.

Last note I know that starting next year Regions can expand the playoffs by one round (6 or 8 teams per Div making the playoffs) I know several of the AAA Regions have already commited to go to an 8 team playoff any word yet on what region C,D, or IV plan on doing?

Re: What If...?

LOL just thought of this without any changes to the teams in Div1 and Div2 this would have been the setup

In Division 2, you would have had:

#4 Virginia High* (5-5, 16.8) @ #1 Lebanon* (8-2, 19.1)
#3 Powell Valley (7-3, 18.0) @ Haysi* (9-1, 18.1)

In Division 1, would have been exactly the same

*Denotes district champion

Teams sitting out would have been

Honaker (6-4, 15.7)
Clintwood (6-4, 15.0)
Gate City (4-6, 13.5)

And this is without anyone switching Divisions!!!!!!
Lebanon or Va. high Dropping is what the differance maker was!

Well, since you think the 7/16 split is such a great thing, please inform us how you think you could also include an 8 team regional playoff within YOUR Region D with YOUR Division 2 having only 7 teams?

You're way of thinking is only to cater to one and only one - I think we all know who you are thinking of & [censored] the rest - not that I expected anything but such from you though. Maybe your football team might be able to get out of the region one day. God knows if you were the King of the VHSL" as you mentioned you'd make sure they did so - one way or another. Boy you are a bitter little man

Honestly I don't like an 8 team playoff I think 6 team would be fine with the two top seeds getting a bye.

The Div1 split would probable have helped both Haysi and Honaker more than Clintwood the last several year (However the 8-2 Clintwood team would have made the playoffs under that setup)

Again I think the answer is to do away with Divisions and go to 4A or 5A in every sport would that Help Clintwood probably not but it would be more fair than the current setup in which the Div1 schools in region B would be second largest school in out region LOL heck while we are at it no more playing "Up" schools like Grundy, Graham and Tazwell would all be single A (but could continue to play with Richlands in a A/AA district)

Virginia High and Lebanon will be in the same district. Lebanon would be the district champ and Virginia High would get into the postseason based on power points - over 6-4 teams Honaker & Clintwood. Based on Virginia High's schedule for next season, it is a much easier schedule than in the past 2-3 years but the opportunity for points is a little less. Bottom line - teams within Region D better start beefing up their out-of-district schedules in the future if they want to make the postseason without winning their respective district.

Then by your thinking on the 7/16 split - that you said you supported - 6 out of the 7 Division 2 Region D teams make the playoffs - regardless of record?
